AFC Fylde Community Foundation host several work placements for high school students

AFC Fylde Community Foundation have provided young students with the opportunity for work placements in the last few weeks.

We have welcomed 15-year-old Jamie into our media department for a five day work experience where he was shown what it entails to work within media on a day-to-day basis.

Jamie reached out to the Foundation and asked if he would be able to spend the week with us to give himself an experience of working in an office, but also going out to different sessions and being taught how to use new equipment.

He arrived at the start of the July and with the intention of making his placement as enjoyable as possible, we brought Jamie along to some of our group sessions such as Extra Time and Kirkham Companions, before then taking him to AFC Fylde's training ground to produce some content with the players.

Jamie was shown how to use the camera, editing software, graphic design work and how to manage all social media channels.

Jamie said: "I really enjoyed my placement at the Foundation. All of the staff there are really kind and welcoming."

"Obviously, learning all about the behind the scenes work for the media department was interesting but also being able to go to the sessions and see all the work the Foundation does for the Community was inspiring.

"Going out to the Loneliness Prevention Project sessions and meeting new people was terrifying at first but they made me feel comfortable and welcome straight away.

"This week made me realise how important working to deadlines are and how you have to be able to use loads of different softwares to be able to do one role."

Our Employability and Skills manager, Chris McNally, also invited Callum to complete his week-long placement at the Official Charity of AFC Fylde with our school services team.

Callum partnered up with our coaches and supported them by helping them deliver their sessions in various different primary schools.

He helped several of our coaches by organising equipment for basketball, football and other sports during lunch time sessions and also interacting with the pupils.

After Callum completed his placement, he stated: "I really enjoyed my placement. It was much better than being at school!

"The different coaches that I worked with were really helpful and gave me good advice."

"This placement has taught me that working out in the community instead of sitting at a desk all day is definitely something I would like to do when I'm older."

"Working in different environments has helped me with communication and organisational skills & has made me realise the importance of teamwork."

We hope Jamie and Callum had a great time on their work experience with us and we wish them all the best for the future.
