The Foundation is extremely happy to announce that our Veterans Football Team won the Veterans Football Tournament hosted by Everton In The Community on 21st June.
Taking place at Goals Soccer Centre in Bootle, Merseyside, The Foundation entered a tournament alongside five other Armed Forces football teams, with the aim of the day being to raise awareness of Armed Forces week.
Our Veterans Football Team was set up with support from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund, and is run by the Foundation’s Veteran Support Officer, Lee Geraghty, who served 22 years in the Armed Forces before joining the Foundation. Lee said “Our Veterans Football Project is really important for those in the local community who are due to leave, or who have already left, the Armed Forces. The project allows people to come together, find a distraction and reintegrate into civilian life, whilst meeting like-minded people”.
The Foundation took part in five fixtures, winning four and drawing one, meaning they were entered into the final where they won 3 - 2, before being presented with a trophy and medals by Everton legend Ian Snodin. It was a fantastic event for all of those involved, and the Foundation is extremely proud of our Veterans team for their hard work and dedication which enabled them to take home the trophy.
