Foundation Degree helping Tom achieve his coaching goals!

For Tom Snibson, enrolling on our Football Development Foundation Degree, delivered through The University of South Wales and the EFL Trust, has increased his confidence as he dreams of becoming a coach!

Local lad Tom, 18, is now two months into the course and has been supported and mentored by AFC Fylde Community Foundation staff.

The students on our programme split their time across online and classroom learning, as well as practical coaching sessions, which has allowed them to embrace first-hand experience at Fylde Sports and Education Centre, located within the state-of-the-art Mill Farm Sports Village.

We are the only charity of a Vanarama National League club to offer the two-year University of South Wales courses.

Work experience and paid opportunities are also available for students on the course, whilst a full AFC Fylde Community Foundation kit will be supplied.

The benefits of studying for a degree at AFC Fylde Community Foundation include living at home whilst studying, which lowers living costs, not having to leave your existing job, and the chance to gain over 400 hours of real-world experience within an ambitious professional club and the Foundation.

And from September 2024, we will be providing students with the opportunity to study Business in Sport and Sports Development degrees with the Foundation.

Tom said: “On the course so far, we have done a few different modules, such as Sports Science and Academic research. We’ve also had a lot of work-based learning which has given me a load of experience that I’ve enjoyed so far.

“We travelled down to the USW Campus, where we spent three days learning about the course and the modules. We got the chance to use their high-class facilities and learn from their high-level coaches which really benefitted me.

“I would 100% recommend the USW courses. I’ve been on it for two months now and I’ve learned so much and gained experience, so it’s a great opportunity for young people.”

Chris McNally, Employability and Skills Manager at AFC Fylde Community Foundation, added: “It’s great to see Tom and the rest of the lads enjoying the course early into their degree.

“To see the lads embracing the course and making the most out of the work experience that they have received during their time here, is testament to their dedication to the course.

“We are exciting to be expanding our degree options to include Business in Sport and Sports Development degrees for next year.”
