Club and Community Foundation dedicate York City game to annual Remembrance Day fixture!

Updated: Nov 8, 2023

AFC Fylde and AFC Fylde Community Foundation will dedicate Saturday’s Vanarama National League game against York City at Mill Farm to our annual Remembrance Day fixture.

This year’s Remembrance Day fixture falls on Armistice Day, providing an opportunity to commemorate British Military personnel who have lost their lives in past and present conflicts.

On the day, serving soldiers and their families from Weeton Barracks will be in attendance, as well as the Mercian Regiment.

The Club and Community Foundation are joining other Football Clubs across the country by paying our respects to Armed Forces personnel.

AFC Fylde’s first-team squad will proudly wear the poppy emblem on their shirts and black armbands during the York City match.

Prior to kick-off, the captains of AFC Fylde and York City will lay wreaths pitchside. Our veterans will welcome the teams onto the pitch before a period of silence, where the last post will be played.

At half-time, our veterans will walk a lap around the pitch. We encourage all supporters to remain in their seats and on the terraces to support the veterans.

The Foundation works in close partnership with BAE Systems and Veterans Foundation, to support serving and ex-service personnel, and their families living in Fylde.

We provide free football sessions, breakfast clubs youth clubs and wellbeing service supports on our Armed Forces Community Programme.

The programme is led by an ex-serviceman of 22-years, who left Weeton Barracks and started as a volunteer at the Foundation, gained full-time employment and is now supporting over 250 members of the Armed Forces Community per-year.

Everyone at AFC Fylde and AFC Fylde Community Foundation are proud to support our Armed Forces community living locally in Fylde.
