AFC Fylde’s Tom Walker and Head of Goalkeeping, Dan Crofts, paid a visit to the Foundation’s Footballing Development Centre recently, where they provided a footballing workshop to the aspiring young children.
During the session, Walker and Crofts took part in a workshop and short-sided games of football with the children, who were eager to showcase their skills. Following the workshop, the pair shared their footballing journeys with the children, and answered any questions they had about what it is like to work within the AFC Fylde First Team.
The Development Centre children were then invited to the AFC Fylde Fixture later that day, furthering their insight into life within the AFC Fylde First Team and providing an enjoyable day out for all children, who were able to wave the team onto the pitch ahead of kick-off.
The Foundation’s Football Development Centres are part of their wider youth provision within the Fylde Borough, and have saw over 200 children take part in sessions since they began in 2021. The Development Centres are not only a chance for children to develop their technical abilities, but also provide a way for children to grow their confidence and social skills.
Hayley, whose children have both attended the Football Development Centres from an early age, said that, “My son and daughter both absolutely love the football sessions provided by the Community Foundation. I am impressed with how these sessions have helped them both develop their technical skills and understanding of football strategy.
“When my daughter joined, she had never played football before and lacked confidence when in large groups. These session have been invaluable in helping her confidence grow and as a result she now plays football for a local football team alongside the Development Centres.”
