The AFC Fylde Community Foundation is set to launch the nationally recognised Futsal programme.
Working in partnership with Virtual Learning UK (VLUK), the Foundation will begin to roll out the highly acclaimed programme in September 2017.
Futsal is a fast paced, small sided football game originating from South America but widely played across the world and is officially recognised by both UEFA and FIFA. Futsal is played on a 5 aside pitch on either a wooden surface,3G surface or a sand base.
Futsal balls are a size 4 weighted ball to ensure the game is played on a ground level most of the time as the game is mainly focusing on technical ability. Futsal has created some of the best 11 aside players ever including : Couthinio, Pele, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lionel Messi and Fabregas to name a few.
It is a huge accolade for The Foundation to be named as the latest organisation to be given approval to deliver the greatly respected programme which offers fantastic opportunities for young people to develop both educational skills and physical ability.
The Futsal programme is an innovative two year course that enables its young participants to work towards qualifications while taking part.
During the course, students will be based full time at Mill Farm Sports Village and will divide their time between educational sessions and playing Futsal.
They will work towards achieving a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Equivalent to three A* Levels) which will present them with exciting opportunities for progression into further education or a working environment – potentially even leading to jobs within the industry.
The students will be studying in a new state-of-the-art education centre which is set to open its doors at Mill Farm in September 2017 ready for the Futsal programme. The game itself will be played on new 3G pitches also at Mill Farm scheduled for completion in November 2016.
Once enrolled on the Futsal course, the students will be officially representing AFC Fylde and the Foundation as the latest members of the nationally acclaimed Futsal Programme and will be provided with a full kit including tracksuit, waterproofs and jackets.
AFC Fylde’s Ryan Vaughan is the newly assigned and promoted Futsal Programme Lead and will be running and taking charge of the entire scheme. It will be his responsibility to ensure each and every participant achieves the most out of their two years with the Foundation.
Ryan will be working with a full team of staff from the Foundation to ensure the students are put through their paces in the classroom enabling them to achieve as much success in their studies as they do on the pitch.
Ryan, who currently works within The Foundation as Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS) Manager supporting nurseries across the Fylde Coast, is understandably delighted at his recent promotion.
He said: “I’m honoured to be put in charge of such an exciting new national programme. Futsal is a great sport and incredibly enjoyable to play. But, what is even better is that participants work towards getting additional qualifications at the same time, which obviously represents a fantastic opportunity for them. I am really eager to get the programme up and running at the Foundation and I’m confident it will be a huge success.”
A typical day on the course would be as follows;
9:00: Arrive at the AFC Fylde Education Academy
9:30: Independent Learning / Enrichment Activities
10:00: BTEC Level 3 Studies
13:00: Futsal Preparations
13:30: Futsal Training/ Game
15:30: IT Suite – Guided Learning with on Site tutor
16:00: End of Day
Over the upcoming months the Foundation are going to be running multiple sessions and events to ensure that everybody interested in Futsal can fully understand the course and how it could be of benefit to them. There will be taster sessions coming into all schools across the Fylde Coast so that children can take part and experience the game first hand. The foundation staff will also be explaining to the children exactly how the course works, answering questions and what you get out of it when it comes to the end of the two years whilst also explaining the type of routes the qualification and experience could lead you towards. As well as taster sessions within schools the foundation will also be visiting grassroots teams across the Fylde coast to ensure that anybody who might be interested is fully understanding of the whole programme and what it consists of.
On top of the visits and sessions the Foundation are providing, we will also be hosting a official open evening held at Churchills Restaurant Mill Farm. The opening evening will be open to all young people and parents to come down and find out more about the programme and meet all the staff whilst viewing the facilities Mill Farm sports village has to offer. The open evening will take place on the 17th January from 6-8pm and everybody that attends will receive a brochure to take home and keep hold of incase you decide your interested!
AFC Fylde Community Foundation director Tom Hutton is delighted to get the programme up and running and said “The futsal programme is something I am extremely excited to start with and I believe it is an excellent opportunity for both the students and the staff involved at the Foundation. Working with brilliant coaches and teaching staff the students will be able to achieve great things over the 2 year period and for it to be based at Mill Farm Sports Village is a brilliant bonus!”
To be accepted onto the course you will need a minimum of 4 A* to C GCSE’S including Maths and English. There will be individual cases considered for the course for the people that do not meet the qualification criteria but the course will be a 3 year course instead of a 2 year course. The first year will be a Level 2 qualification before you continue on to do the 2 years of Level 3 studies.
